Frequently Asked Questions

At GWM Edenvale, our goal is to make buying your next vehicle simple, transparent and enjoyable. Whether you are looking for a new GWM, HAVAL, TANK, ORA or P-Series vehicle, or a quality pre-owned vehicle, our team can assist you through every step of the process.

Dealership

1. I'm not sure what vehicle to buy – can GWM Edenvale help?

Absolutely. You do not need to know exactly which vehicle you want before contacting us. Our sales team can help you narrow down your options based on your budget, preferred monthly repayment, intended use, passenger numbers, body type, fuel economy, technology and safety needs, and whether you prefer a new or pre-owned vehicle.

2. Do I need to book a test drive before visiting the dealership?

While walk-in customers are always welcome, we recommend booking a test drive in advance. This allows us to ensure your preferred vehicle is available, clean, fuelled and ready for your arrival. Booking ahead also reduces waiting time and allows one of our product specialists to provide a personalised demonstration, including a walkthrough of safety, infotainment, connectivity and driver-assistance features.

3. What do I need to bring for a test drive or when buying a vehicle?

For a test drive, please bring a valid driver’s licence. When you are ready to buy, you may also need:

  • South African ID or valid passport.
  • Proof of residence, normally not older than three months.
  • Latest payslips or proof of income if financing.
  • Bank statements if required by the finance institution.
  • Trade-in vehicle details, if applicable.

Your sales consultant will confirm the exact documentation required for your transaction.

4. Can I get pre-approved for finance before visiting the dealership?

Yes. Our Finance & Insurance specialists can assist you with a pre-approval application before your visit. Pre-approval gives you a better indication of your purchasing power and helps you shop within an appropriate budget.

Buying a Vehicle

1. Should I buy a new vehicle or a pre-owned vehicle?

Both can offer excellent value. A new vehicle gives you the latest technology, safety features and manufacturer warranty benefits, along with the reassurance of being the vehicle’s first owner. A quality pre-owned vehicle may let you purchase more vehicle for your budget. Our team can compare suitable new and pre-owned options so you can make an informed decision.

2. Which new vehicle brands can I consider at GWM Edenvale?

Our team can assist customers looking for vehicles across the GWM family of brands, including GWM, HAVAL, TANK, ORA and P-Series models. Vehicle availability changes regularly, so speak to our sales team about current stock, specifications, derivatives and colours.

3. Can I compare several vehicles before making a decision?

Yes. We encourage customers to compare vehicles, and our sales team can help you understand differences in pricing, specifications, performance, safety, technology, interior space, warranty and service benefits, and estimated finance repayments. The objective is to help you choose the vehicle that makes the most sense for you.

4. Can I reserve a vehicle before coming to the dealership?

Yes. If you have found a vehicle you are interested in, contact our sales team as soon as possible. We can discuss options for reserving the vehicle while you finalise your test drive, finance application or other arrangements. Reservation terms and conditions may apply.

5. What happens after I decide which vehicle I want?

Your GWM Edenvale team will guide you through the remaining steps, including confirming the vehicle and price, completing a trade-in appraisal if applicable, finalising the finance application, selecting any value-added products, signing the required documentation, completing registration and licensing, and preparing the vehicle for delivery. Your sales consultant will keep you informed throughout.

6. Are there costs in addition to the advertised vehicle price?

Yes, additional charges may apply depending on the transaction, vehicle, finance structure, licensing requirements and any optional products you select. Ask your sales consultant for a complete quotation so you understand the total transaction before committing to the purchase.

7. How long does buying a vehicle take, and what happens at delivery?

Once finance is approved and all documentation is complete, many purchases can be finalised quickly, although timing depends on factors such as registration, trade-in settlement and vehicle preparation. At handover, our team will take you through the vehicle’s controls, infotainment, safety features, warranty information and service requirements, so you leave feeling comfortable and confident with your new vehicle.

Vehicle Finance

1. How do I know what vehicle I can afford?

Our Finance & Insurance team can help you establish a comfortable monthly budget by considering the vehicle price, deposit, trade-in value, finance period, interest rate and any balloon or residual payment. This helps us recommend vehicles within a realistic price range.

2. What documents do I need to apply for vehicle finance?

Generally you will require:

  • A South African ID or valid passport.
  • A valid driver’s licence.
  • Proof of residence, normally not older than three months.
  • Latest payslips or acceptable proof of income.
  • Bank statements where required by the finance institution.

Additional documentation may be requested depending on your individual application.

3. What credit score do I need to qualify for vehicle finance?

There is no single credit score that guarantees approval. Finance institutions consider your overall application, including your credit profile, income, affordability, existing commitments and the vehicle being financed. Each application is assessed individually.

4. Can I get vehicle finance if my credit score is low?

Possibly. A lower credit score does not automatically mean finance is impossible. Finance institutions assess your individual circumstances, affordability and overall credit profile. Our Finance & Insurance team can submit your application to suitable providers and discuss the options available to you.

5. Can I buy a vehicle without paying a deposit?

It may be possible to obtain 100% vehicle finance, subject to approval by the finance institution. A deposit can, however, reduce the amount financed and lower your monthly repayment. Our Finance & Insurance team can show you different scenarios so you can compare your options.

6. How long does vehicle finance approval take?

Many applications receive a response relatively quickly once all required information has been submitted. Some may take longer if additional documentation, verification or assessment is required by the finance institution.

7. Which banks and finance houses do you work with, and is approval guaranteed?

Our Finance & Insurance team works with major South African vehicle finance institutions and banks, allowing us to help customers identify competitive finance options. However, all finance is subject to the relevant institution’s credit assessment and approval criteria, so finance is never guaranteed – the final decision remains with the finance provider.

Trade-Ins

1. Can I trade in my current vehicle when buying another one?

Yes. GWM Edenvale can assess your current vehicle and provide a trade-in offer that can be incorporated into your next vehicle purchase.

2. How is my trade-in vehicle valued?

Our appraisal team considers factors such as the vehicle’s age, mileage, overall condition, service history, tyre condition, specification and current market demand and retail values. Our goal is to provide a fair and transparent market-related valuation.

3. Can I trade in a vehicle that I am still financing?

Yes. We can obtain a settlement amount from your current finance provider and incorporate it into the proposed transaction. If the trade-in value is higher or lower than the settlement amount, our team will explain how that affects your next purchase.

4. How can I maximise the value of my trade-in?

Keeping your vehicle well maintained helps preserve its value. Before having it appraised, consider:

  • Cleaning the vehicle and addressing minor cosmetic issues.
  • Keeping servicing up to date and bringing service records.
  • Bringing all spare keys and the owner’s manual.
  • Making sure tyres, the windscreen and other major items are in good condition.

Used Vehicles

1. Do all your pre-owned vehicles undergo inspections before being sold?

Yes. Every quality pre-owned vehicle undergoes a comprehensive 125-point mechanical and safety inspection before being offered for sale. You are also encouraged to inspect and test drive the vehicle before making your decision.

2. Can I see a vehicle's history before purchasing it?

Where available, we can provide relevant vehicle history and supporting information to help you make an informed decision. Ask your sales consultant about the specific vehicle you are considering.

3. Do pre-owned vehicles come with a warranty?

Warranty coverage differs from vehicle to vehicle. A pre-owned vehicle may still have the balance of its manufacturer’s warranty, depending on its age, mileage and warranty conditions, and additional or extended warranty products may also be available. Our Finance & Insurance team can explain the options applicable to the vehicle you are considering.

4. Can I arrange an independent inspection of a pre-owned vehicle?

Yes. We support transparency and are happy to discuss reasonable arrangements for an independent inspection, subject to prior agreement with the dealership.

5. Can I finance a pre-owned vehicle?

Yes, subject to the finance institution’s approval and the age, mileage, value and condition of the vehicle. Our Finance & Insurance team can assist you with the application.

After-Sales & Service

1. What support do I receive after purchasing my vehicle?

Our relationship with you does not end when you drive out of the dealership. GWM Edenvale can continue assisting with vehicle servicing, genuine parts, warranty-related assistance, maintenance, future trade-ins, upgrades and general advice regarding your vehicle.

2. Where should I service my new GWM vehicle?

Your vehicle should be serviced according to the manufacturer’s prescribed maintenance schedule and requirements. Servicing through an authorised dealership provides confidence that manufacturer-approved procedures and suitable parts are being used.

3. Does GWM Edenvale offer an additional warranty on new vehicles?

GWM Edenvale offers a complimentary top-up warranty on qualifying new non-commercial vehicles. Certain terms and conditions apply, including servicing requirements at the dealership. Ask your GWM Edenvale sales consultant to explain the applicable warranty terms, eligibility requirements and benefits when purchasing your vehicle.
